According to the Banff, Kootenay, Yoho avalanche forecast, “the base of the snowpack remains weak due to the presence of basal depth hoar and facets. Avalanches have been occurring on this layer daily: either failing on this layer, or stepping down to this layer with wide propagations.”
Shots like this one, which occurred on February 15th in the Banff backcountry (possibly outside the boundary of Sunshine Village), completely validate the severity of the current report, and the Special Public Avalanche Warning that has been issued for the Rockies and BC Interior for about a week now.
Careful out there everyone. Sounds like there’s some cold snow to be had throughout those regions these days, but it comes at the cost of some really spooky conditions.
