There is said news today as we have to report our friend Erik Roner has died in a skydiving accident near Lake Tahoe. Teton Gravity Research is reporting that Erik hit a tree when coming in for landing at a golf course where the Squaw Valley Institute was having its annual Celebrity Golf Tournament. Others he was jumping with included JT Holmes and Aaron McGovern.
Powder Magazine reported that “Roner was suspended by his chute 25-30 feet off the ground for at least 40 minutes until emergency crews could reach him. He was then transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. Cause of death is still unknown.”
Erik was one of the most fun action sports icons of our time. He told us once that his goal in life was to ‘try not to take himself too seriously.” His Roner Vision edits were always worth a good chuckle. Erik was a staple in the Nitro Circus movies and web edits where his antics often branched beyond his traditional sports of skiing and BASE jumping. Erik is survived by a loving wife and two small children.
