It started with a helluvatime and then we took a rest day. Day 2 of the Smith trip was a lot more mellow than day 1 but that doesn’t mean we didn’t get stuff done. First on the agenda was looking out our window at the Sutton Place to take in long views of Mt. Begbie, which was now, of course, no longer in the clouds. There’s something about looking at a peak you were standing on yesterday that never gets old. Throughout our trip we stole proud glances at this peak many times.
With a sense of accomplishment we started going about our daily tasks of setting up the rest of the trip, which was a tall order because somehow we had to find some untouched pow and get amazing shots. Our budget allowed for some helicopter time but not a lot (that’s an equation for serious logistics balancing). The group was well motivated to ski-tour for our turns and setting objectives and priorities was our mission. There were phone calls and meetings and preparations made. Trucks got fixed, groceries got shopped, and plans got solidified.

How much lift should we put on our new truck?

Staying in and cooking our food was the plan. Filmer Nic Teichrob from Dendrite Studios unpacking.

Selkirk Tangiers tenure map at dinner. Oh the places we could go.
DAY 3
Day 3 dawned and we were in line at the Relevation Gondola before the lift opened. Our mission to go ski touring off the ski hill needed as much time as possible to find snow and get shots. We also had to be at a heli briefing by 5pm.

Energy needed on a touring day? These Voke tablets are naturally caffeinated. They give you a little bump.

First turns of the day were a party run. Skiers: Chris Rubens, Eric Hjorleifson and Griffin Post. These guys make ok snow look good.

Persistent cold temps made these new Arcteyrx Lithic gloves with built-in liners pretty awesome.

With a shoot day planned at Selkirk Tangiers the next day, Eric and Chris discuss options with the guides.
Stay tuned to read about our heli shred day. With these skiers, how could it not go good?
