A wave of sadness and shock has been making its way through the freeride community today with the news that Maxim Arsenault passed away skiing in Alaska yesterday.

Details are sparse at this point, but one thing’s for sure: we just lost one of the happiest members of the tribe.

Always smiling, always sending.

Max made a name for himself with a good old fashioned fall line approach to big mountain skiing. He was a staple in the old Dendrite Studios movies and started filming with TGR in more recent years.

More importantly, he was a fun guy to be in the mountains with. If you ask anyone to describe him in one word, they’d say “stoked”.

And even if you were just meeting him for the first time, he had a way of making you feel like you’d known him for years.

Shred in Peace Max.

We’ll miss you down here. But we take a little comfort in knowing that we have another good one looking over us.

Caw Caw!

-Ed’s Note: We chose this older video because it does such a damn good job of showcasing Max’s approach to big mountain riding. But if you have a chance, take the time to watch all the vids you can find of the perpetually stoked Frenchman doing what he does best.

He’d be pumped.
