SASS Japan to include three 10-day mobile powder hunting sessions based on Hokkaido in the heart of Japanuary.
RINCON, PUERTO RICO – September 15th, 2014 — After recent completion of the 10th season of their flagship SASS Argentina program, SASS Global Travel announces the newest installment to their session list. SASS Japan 2015 is open for registration. For the second year of the program, SASS will use their snow travel expertise to offer a specialized opportunity to advanced skiers and riders looking to get a taste of the deepest snow the world has to offer. The North Island of Japan, Hokkaido, has become a bucket list trip for powder hunters in recent years and SASS is looking to make this unique location accessible to adventure travelers with a desire for face shots and a distinct cultural experience.
SASS Japan will base itself out of high-end Japanese lodging off the beaten path near the well known area of Niseko and utilize 4×4 vans to make sure that every day is spent in the most snow available. More than ten ski areas handpicked for their incredible side-country and a diverse range backcountry zones including abandoned ski areas, volcanos and pillow-playgrounds are within driving distance. Small groups of like-minded skiers and riders of similar ability levels will be led by the all-star cast of pro guides and coaches for which SASS is famous.
Three ten-day sessions will run from January 3rd through February 7th to hit “Japanuary” (a time known for the most consistent snowfall) while it is in full swing. Session 3 will have an add-on option which includes a three day trip to the remote backcountry tramway of Asahidake in the center of the island, giving clients even greater exposure to Japanese culture via traditional lodging and cuisine.
Previous client Brandon Halberstadt says, “After getting to Japan for the first time last year with SASS, I will be sure to go back every single year for as long as I can make it work. The snow, the trees, the pillows, the culture… and the snow!” The SASS team could not be more fired up to get back to their new favorite destination and share it with a new crew. “I have devoted the majority of my life to skiing. If you have done the same, you long for those deep, deep days. Hokkaido has redefined my concept of deep,” says Ski Guide and Mountain Operations Director Pete Connolly.
SASS is excited to add to its quiver of snow trips with the addition of SASS Japan in 2015. Building off of the success of last year’s Japan Discovery trip and the knowledge gained through years in Argentina, their unrivaled ability to bring high-end skiers and riders together in a tight-knit atmosphere while experiencing a new culture and getting after it in amazing terrain will be in full effect.
